60-1401. Jurisdiction and costs. The district court shall have authority to change the name of any person, township, town or city within this state at the cost of the petitioner without affecting any legal right.

1. Common-law history recognizes right to change name; minor may file through next friend hereunder. In re Application to Change Name, 10 K.A.2d 625, 627, 706 P.2d 480 (1985).

2. Trial court lacks jurisdiction or statutory authority to change last name of child of the marriage in divorce action. In re Marriage of Killman, 264 K. 33, 35, 39, 955 P.2d 1228 (1998).
